Microsoft Project Import FAQs

You can use i-lign's Microsoft® Project import facility to load project schedule information (tasks, milestones, dependencies, resource allocations) from a Microsoft Project file into an i-lign project.

Microsoft Project Import Procedure

Follow these steps to import a MS Project file into i-lign. (This option is only available in Microsoft Project 2002 or higher.)

Can I print out the Gantt Chart?

The Gantt chart has not been designed to be printed: i-lign is intended for enterprise-wide use and enables online, paperless reporting that uses realtime, consolidated information.

Can an i-lign schedule be exported to Microsoft Project ?

The export will output the i-lign schedule data (tasks, milestones, constraints, and resource allocations) in an .xml format that can be read by MS Project 2002 and above.

Importing XML file problems

Schedules that are exported to XML and then re-imported without saving them in MS Project will not be imported correctly.

MS Project Importing and Exporting in Active Projects

Avoid creating a schedule in Microsoft Project, importing and updating it in i-lign, then exporting to Microsoft Project and then repeating the process.

Can I use several allocation rates with the same Resource against a single Task?

This can be achieved using a Task Pool, but is not possible in i-lign for standard Tasks, where only one allocation rate can be set per Resource per Task.
