Importing Resources: Overview

The i-lign tool has the ability to import existing resource information. This feature is particularly useful in situations where multiple users need to be created in i-lign, for instance at implementation time, or adding another team to the i-lign user base.

Microsoft Project Import Procedure

Follow these steps to import a MS Project file into i-lign. (This option is only available in Microsoft Project 2002 or higher.)

Estimating Project Resource expenses

i-lign uses four types of estimate. All of them calculate projected expenses between the Start and End dates of the project.

Project Resource Planning

The Project Resource Planning consolidated view displays a list of planned project and resource information, from the current month and for the following eight months.

How is the Project Percentage Complete figure calculated?

The Project Percentage Complete figure displays on the Project Snapshot.

Setting Exchange Rates

Organisations spanning several countries will find the ability to display consolidated budgets in different currencies very useful.

Can an i-lign schedule be exported to Microsoft Project ?

The export will output the i-lign schedule data (tasks, milestones, constraints, and resource allocations) in an .xml format that can be read by MS Project 2002 and above.

Managing Project Number Allocation

Project number allocation can be centrally managed either externally to i-lign or by using i-lign's auto-number generation function.

Changing the Lifecycle of an Active Project

An active project may have approved Stages in its Lifecycle. Its it is not possible to delete or edit approved Stages.

However, you can replace your existing Lifecycle with a new Lifecycle that takes into account that an approved stage needs to be extended, the stage was approved by mistake, or a decision has made to follow a different methodology.

Importing XML file problems

Schedules that are exported to XML and then re-imported without saving them in MS Project will not be imported correctly.
