Project Financials

This tutorial takes you through the finer points of using i-lign's Project Financials feature. It assumes that you have completed the basic i-lign training module.

Capex / Opex

Q: How do you get a Resource's costs to appear in the Quarterly and Yearly Summaries as capital expenditure (capex)?

Total Financial Lines

In i-lign, financial information can be totalled in several different ways.

Generating the figures: Resources

Planned costs

Monthly Planned costs for Projects are calculated using the selected estimation method (see Estimating Project Resource expenses).

Generating the figures: Line Items

A Line Item covers a single Financial Year. A Project may have one or more Line Items for each Account.

Variance and Outturn

The calculation method for financial Outturn has big implications for the types of data project managers must enter.

The Financials tabs

To view or edit the Project Financials, click on the Financials tab in the left-hand blue Project Menu.

How are Project and Activity Costs Recorded?

Project managers record information in i-lign on a monthly basis. i-lign aggregates this information to provide totals for each quarter, each financial year and for a Project's Lifespan.

Financial import formats

Project budget information can be imported from FMIS applications into i-lign, using the following file formats.

Estimating Project Resource expenses

i-lign uses four types of estimate. All of them calculate projected expenses between the Start and End dates of the project.
