Schedules that are exported to XML and then re-imported without saving them in MS Project will not be imported correctly.

An i-lign schedule must be re-saved in MS Project as an XML file before being re-imported back into i-lign.

Re-importing a previously exported schedule is NOT recommended but you may encounter this scenario when exporting the schedule to back it up while making changes to the i-lign schedule, or by accident after exporting the schedule to MS Project. Refer to MS Project Importing and Exporting in active projects for more information.

Signs that the XML file was not saved in MS Project before being imported:

  • Milestones are displayed as tasks with zero duration in the Gantt view instead of milestone icons (diamonds).
  • The fields in a milestone dialog box in Gantt view are displaced e.g. the Name field is displayed beside the Start date field title. See screenshot >
  • Sometimes an error message 'The end instant must be greater or equal to the start' is generated when opening task or milestone dialogs in Gantt view.

To rectify these problems, re-import the XML file after re-saving it in MS Project. (If the XML file is not available then you will have to export it again.)
