i-Vision provides visualisation of key information in a way that is dramatically different to conventional reporting or standard view screens.
This topic applies from v4.0 onwards. Project Visualisation was introduced in 4.1
i-Vision provides visualisation of key information in a way that is dramatically different to conventional reporting or standard view screens. Key elements include:
-
Visualisations are not formal reports and do not seek to provide all the answers. Their aim is to provide interesting views and provoke questions and discussions
-
Visualisations are dynamic in that they are compiled from real-time data
-
Visualisations tend to provide enterprise-wide views, e.g. visualising all portfolio risks above a specified rating. The value of this is being able to view information in a wider context rather than viewing risks in isolation
-
Being able to drill-down into the originating information for the visualisation, e.g. into a specific risk, to get an additional level of information.
Organisation level visualisations
There are four Organisation level visualisations:
- Risks
- Project deliverables
- Cross-project dependencies
- Resource management
You need to enable the 'i-Vision: View' organisation-level permission to give users the ability to see these visualisations (it's on the 'Business Alignment' tab)
Project level visualisations
There are two Project level visualisations:
- Timeline - showing Reviews, Milestones, Issues, Risks and Change Requests
- Associated items including XPDs - within and across Projects
In the Timeline visualisation can be zoomed using the mouse wheel.
You need to enable the 'i-Vision: View Project' project-level permission to give users the ability to see these visualisations.
File associations
Please note, on some users PCs, the application which displays i-Vision does not automatically load. If this occurs for your users, the following file association will need to be specified.
- Start> Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types > JNLP File > Opens with: Change > Browse >
c:\Program Files>Java>JRE1.6.0_03>lib>javaws *Note - when searching for this file, ensure search option Files of type is set to All Files.
