Bio

The early years of my working life was in large government agencies. My initial career focus was in Information Technology (IT). The IT section within organisations is often the first area to structure their work as projects. Therefore I have been in the fortunate position of being able to combine and develop my skills in the areas of both IT and project management. Through a natural progression in a variety of roles, and also through formal qualifications I have broadened my knowledge and experience to encompass a more broadly based understanding of the business environment. I believe there is significant benefit in being able to combine a good understanding of business with the key skills and competencies of IT and project management.
I have spent the last 6 years consulting in the area of project management to a wide variety of both Government and private sector organisations in New Zealand. A natural progression from roles in which I was providing services and advice within organisations.
A snapshot of my career (in reverse chronological order):

  • 6 years consulting and delivering project management services to a wide variety of government and commercial sector businesses
  • 3 years NZ Police
  • 13 years Reserve Bank of New Zealand
  • State Services Commission
  • NZ Post Office

Tony (my boss here at i-lign) likes the fact that I have been round long enough in the industry to have grey hair. My take on this is that my hairdresser is fired!
I am often told that as a born and bred Wellingtonian I am one of a fairly rare breed. I did however spend two of my formative years travelling and doing my ‘OE’.
I am married and have two children, both of whom are now young adults. We still enjoy overseas travel and of recent years this has been to follow my daughter round the world. My son is currently completing a degree at Otago University. We occasionally host exchange students so the house is not too empty.
I have a broad range of interests outside work including an interest in the culture of South America. I also get far more appreciative comments for my photography than my limited talent warrants. I also surprise myself by doing things which are totally out of character for me (e.g. participating in the World of Wearable Arts show).
